This is a photo of Ramadan lanterns.

This is a Ramadan lantern it is important to me and my family because we have been using it for years. We use this in the month of Ramadan. Ramadan is when one of our beloved prophet (Muhammad Salla Allahu Alayhi Wasallam) was born. The Lantern Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. The Ramadan lantern has a big symbol to Muslims, in fact us Muslims have been using them for years, the Quran came down from the sky on Ramadan and that’s why we fast every May. Why do we fast? We fast because in our religion we have the five pillars of Islam, the five pillars of Islam are, Shahada, Salat, Zakat, Fast and Hajj. The fourth one is fasting, and that one is the third most important one because when you are in the grave, Allah (our god) will question you if you have done all of them and if you missed one, your arm will get cut in quarters and if you miss all four of them, your hand will disappear. Do not worry for the last, Hajj. If you have a lot of money, you should go do it. But if you don’t have that much money, you don’t have to do it.

The lantern is a symbol of the whole Islamic culture and my family always gathers around it and we break our fast. Sometimes, we go to the Mosque to break our fast. We also feed the poor even if they are not Muslim.
