Pupusas
When my dad was five years old, his family fled a civil war in El Salvador and began a new life in San Francisco, California. Although they left much behind, they carried many traditions with them to California. One of these was making pupusas. Pupusas are a traditional food from El Salvador that are like stuffed tortillas. Growing up in San Francisco, my grandma would often make them at family gatherings. My aunts, and sometimes even my cousins and I, would pitch in to help. There are many ways to make pupusas, but my family always stuffs them with pork and cheese. Truthfully, I have never been a huge fan of them, but eating them always reminds me of great times spent with my family back in California. My parents have tried to find restaurants that make good pupusas, but none can compare to my grandma's.
