This punch bowl with cups is known in our family as the bowl and cups never to be used.  This was the only thing my great-grandmother had of her mother on my mother’s side.  This was passed to Granny Marian by her adopted mother.  Granny Marian cherished this punch set so much because it was the only thing she had of her dead mother, who passed away when she was only three years old.  Granny Marian gave this to grandmother when she married grandfather as a generational gift.  My grandmother never gave it to any of her children and kept it on the top shelf of china.  Growing up with my grandmother, I always used one of the cups, not knowing at the time how it came about, but I did not care because I thought it was pretty, and it always caught my eyes.  My grandmother constantly fusses at me and takes it away, but that never stops me from using it.  I plan to take it when I get married and pass it on to my children.
