Preachers Bench
My object is a preacher’s bench that was given to my family after my great-grandparents passed away. The bench was built by my Dedad in the years between 1969 -1970. It is four feet long, three feet high, and a foot wide. The bench was made out of wood. It has a textured design on the backrest. It is stained an avocado green color, which was the popular color during the time it was built. My great-grandfather's ancestors immigrated to America in the 1700s from Germany. Whenever my ancestors came over to America, they still kept their religion as their number one priority and passed their beliefs down to all generations. My Dedad built this bench to carry on the tradition of being a Christian. This bench was always in their living room, and during the holidays or family reunions, all of my family members would use it as a place to sit. The bench reminds me of all the old memories of special holidays spent with my cousins when we were little. It is now owned by my parents, and it is in the hallway of their house. I can’t wait for my future kids and grandkids to develop memories of this beautiful, handmade preacher's bench, made by their great-great-grandfather. This preacher’s bench not only reminds me and my family of all the fond memories at their house, but it also helps us to remember to keep our Christian beliefs as our number one priority.
