My family's immigration story is not something that was taught to me as a kid. In my family, it is not something that we have ever discussed. My object here is a pillow with three cats on it. These cats' names are Milo, Misty, and Sunny Boy. For my entire life, I have had at least one cat around the house. In a literal sense this object is a pillow. However, I believe that this object represents my story because these pets have seen me grow up and have been important pieces of my life’s story. My mom has always told me about her cats growing up and how crazy they used to be. My mom’s most famous cat story was of her cat jumping on the countertops and eating loaves of bread through the plastic. Coming to college 10 hours away from home, I didn’t have much on my family story. But the story of my life that I’ve lived through so far has always involved cats. My mom and I have lost pets along the way. This might seem like an ordinary pillow, but when I see it, I see my pet companions that I’ve watched over me for 18 years. The pillow also helps remind me of my home back In Pennsylvania as I go to school in South Carolina.
