 My Father's Immigration Story

My father, Ernesto, was 16 when he, his father, Rafael, and 3 of his brothers, Efren, Rafael, and Humberto, immigrated into the United States. They went from Jerez-Zacatecas, Mexico to the U.S. My father and his three brothers headed off to the border. Eventually, they reached a coastline, which they ran along for a while. Eventually, they came upon a large stretch of water. They swam across and were basically in the U.S., but as soon as they stepped into the water, they instantly sank. They all managed to get their heads above the water, except for my Tio Humberto. Once my Tio Efren realized he hadn’t come up from the water, he jumped back in and rescued him. After that, they took a short break from running for so long, so they could catch their breath. My dad, and his brothers kept walking down the coastline, so my Tio Efren could go back and get my Grandpa, who was waiting in Mexico. Once they met up, they got a taxi to go pick up my dad and his brothers. After arriving at the meeting point, they got in the taxi with my Grandpa. They took a taxi to LA. From there, they went to Napa, and have lived there ever since.
