Picture of Great Grandpa

Group:

The object that I have chosen to use is a picture of my great grandpa after he was drafted into the army during world war II. The picture is still my dad’s and we keep it in a room along with a bunch of other pictures of my family. I have such great memories of going to the nursing home where he lived. He was always excited to see us and he would sometimes tell us stories about everything. They would range from him being a kid to being with my dad when he was a kid. He passed away when I was ten and the biggest way that my family thinks about him is during Rosh Hashanah. We always take a minute to think about him together and I think it brings us all together. I believe that everyone in my family looks up to him and they are inspired by him because of his story. His parents were immigrants from Russia. He spent a lot of the beginning of his life poor and he had to learn how to assimilate while being in an immigrant family. So when he got back to the states after being stationed in the Pacific he started a business that ended up being very successful. I am so glad that I got to be with him when I did and this picture is really meaningful to me.
