My ancestors in 1905

My object is a photograph taken of several of my ancestors in my grandmother's family. It was taken in a studio in the Lower East Side, from 1905.  The photograph  shows my great-great grandmother, my great-great-great grandmother, and two of my great-great-great uncles.   The people in the photograph left Romania for the US around 1890. In Romania, they owned a store and had a mansion, even servants, but pogroms against Jews caused them to leave for the United States. I chose this photo because it has been in my family for a long time, and it shows several of my ancestors, whom I know very little about. There are still some things I don’t know about the photo. For instance, I’m not sure why it was taken. As getting professional photographs would have been expensive, it must have been some sort of special occasion. There’s a lot we’ll never know about our ancestors, and with each generation, more stories are lost, so you need to remember the ones you have.
