This is a photograph of my maternal Great-Grandfather, Arthur W. Blauert. He served in WWII as a Marine for the US military, willingly joining upon the start of the war. Specifically, he served at Iwo Jima, however, due to an injury early on within the battle, he was put in reserves, but had earned a Purple Heart from that injury. He was actually close friends with one of the servicemen that raised the flag in the famous photo/statue. Due to his injury, he was able to make it past the fight with his life. He then settled down after the injury, meeting my Great-Grandmother, and soon having my Grandmother. Due to the injury, he was able to return home safely, and continue on my family.
