Photo of Great Grandmother
This photo was of my Great-Grandmother Sima and her five sisters. It was taken in the late 1920s. They lived in a town called Kuźnica in Poland, which is very close to the border of modern-day Belarus. Many of the sisters (Yona, Sila, Zahava, and Sima) left Poland due to the rising antisemitism and immigrated to Israel. Yona sent Sima a visa and she came to Israel, then she sent for Sila and Zahava. Another sister, Sarah, was already married and gave birth in Poland, but she was taken to a concentration camp where she died. Sima tried to send for another sister, Bella, but it was too late to send for her and she also died. On a trip back to Israel, my grandmother saw the image of Sima and her sisters, got a copy of it, and brought it back to the states. This photo is important to me because it shows my family's heritage and a piece of history that shows their lives after WW1 and shows that they are happy and decided to take a picture, and unbeknownst to them, each would have a different story, good or bad.
