My great-grandparents risked everything to come to America and along the way they lost many things. However, my great-grandparents brought food with them along the way; this food is pierogis. This dish is a Polish dish that my great-grandparents had when they were in Poland and even when they came to America. My great-grandparents came to America for the typical reason: a better life. They had hoped to find jobs easily and start to raise a family in a safe place where their kids would be educated and then potentially raise a family of their own. When they finally arrived in America everything felt so new and scary. There were new foods, new homes and different people. However, pierogis was one of their favorite dishes so they had started to make them and eat them almost everyday. This Polish dish has been passed down for years and has been a tradition in our family to make at least once a year. This dish represents my family's history and shows that my family's Polish side remained.
