A family heirloom that is important to my family is my great-grandfather’s Pennsylvania railroad pin. Stephen Schneider was born in Austria-Hungary on June 21, 1894, to Michael Schneider and Appolina Kale Schneider. His parents had 11 other children, which is insane to me.  He immigrated to America in 1905 and married his wife, Edith Kumrow Schneider of Germany in 1917. Stephen worked on the Pennsylvania Railroad as an engineer for 42 years, from 1912 to 1955. He had four children, one of them being my grandmother, Clara Bonnett. This pin represents the American Dream to me. He was an immigrant who lived an honest life. He raised a family, had a life-long job, and was happy in Pennsylvania where his descendants still live to this day.
