Pendant Necklace
This pendant is worn by my mother every day. It was a gift from her mother when she went to visit her in London. My grandparents were born in Jamaica and live in London. They have raised four out of the five children there. The one child that was not born there was my mother. The pendant has a picture of the queen even though my mother is not English nor has she ever lived there. She was born and raised in Jamaica and one St. Patrick's Day she moved to America with her pendant around her neck. Now she struggles with the option of either selling the beautiful pendant or giving it to one of her six children. With its intricate design and beautiful color, I would love to take it off her hands, but its lack of significance and meaning to the Davids family gives it a worthless, unattractive feel. My main concern here is that when things travel too far from their original designer, do they lose their significance, meaning, and value? Or does its meaning transform?
