Peaches and Apricots Necklace

I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. All my ancestors and family come from Georgia, and I was graced with the privilege of being born at a time where I could meet my mother’s grandparents- My great grandparents.  He worked as a film operator until around his 60’s when he retired and became a painter and guitar instructor.

I had the privilege of meeting them when Raibuli (My great grandfather) was 82.  With his ever-miraculous painting talents, he still painted and made many different crafts, now with lots more time. He read, painted, and frequently made necklaces with a sewing needle, string, and the pits of peaches and apricots. He collected the pits of the fruit, and when he had enough, he would pierce holes through them to string them onto necklaces.

He adored that activity, he had dozens for me and my family. They mean a lot to me, because personally, I can’t fathom how wonderful it is that my great grandfather, an octogenarian, puts so much time, effort, passion, and love into creating these necklaces for us. He passed away in 2022, and My family kept all the necklaces he beaded. He still serves as an inspiration for me today, and I am astonished to think of how much joy he brought to everyone through his talent.
