your average or not so much pan

This story starts during the Spanish colonization in Mexico in the early 1500s.  One of the things that every member of my family will recognize and never forget is “El Sarten." It is not your average pan or frying pan; it is a tool used to beat children, to show them discipline and obedience. El Sarten is a child beating device for when you don’t listen to parents. Then they proceed to yap and yap at you (lecture you on what you did wrong). El sarten is used on a daily basis. You would think it would hurt less each time because it used on a daily basis, but no. If they don't see/hear you cry, then they might get a bigger one and won’t stop until you cry. So, the recommendation is to fake cry and scream as loud as you can to avoid a longer beating. Another recommendation is to wear two pairs of pants and  long sleeve so the beating can be more tolerable.
