Our Recipe Book

When I look at our old recipe book that my mom brought from my country I immediately recall the day we moved to United States. I was 16 years old when my parents decided to immigrate to United States from Poland. It was the hardest thing I ever did in my life, moving to a country with the language I didn’t speak, living in the country I didn’t know, eating food I never tasted and being around so many different people. The only thing that made me feel like I am home was the food my mom made for me. I still remember when for the very first time we made our favorite dish, pierogies. It still brings smile to my face when I remember how me made our “shopping list” because it wasn’t a regular list. The list contained items like farmer cheese, onion, and potatoes but also things like knife, rolling pin, wooden board, and mixer. This book full of my mom’s recipes is special for me because inside I can find all her favorite dishes that’s she used to make when we lived in Poland, and although we both know every single recipe from there we still open when we cook because it reminds us of our home, and our first “shopping list” that we made in the US is still there.
