Our Lady De Guadalupe
In my family, we have this statue of Our Lady De Guadalupe that my parents brought from Mexico when coming into the U.S.. It represents my religion, which is Catholic. When I look back on it, I grew up knowing her story and how she’s important to our family. My parents told me that they were going to name me Guadalupe in honor of the statue, since I was born on her birthday week, but they decided to name me after my grandma and have Guadalupe as my middle name. Around the holiday season, my mom and I would go to the little church near the tunnel for a small mass to celebrate her and the life she has given us. It’s important to me because it is something that I grew up with, and it gives me hope for my future. I pray to her to thank her for giving me a wonderful life, a loving family who I’ll cherish forever, and for giving me strength every day.
