The Bible

Relationship: Child of im/migrant

I have chosen the Bible as my object. I come from a very Catholic family and the Bible is a very significant object to me and the rest of my family. I grew up reading it and it represents our religion and culture. It is a very special object to my mother who immigrated from Mexico to the United States when she was only 14. She used it to pray whenever things got tough for her.  My mother comes from a very big family, she has 3 brothers and 4 sisters. My grandparents came back and forth from Mexico to the United States because they got better paying jobs in the United States and they used this money to support their family, who still lived in Mexico, until they finally decided to bring their children to the United States with them. Slowly, all my aunts and uncles started coming to the United States until it was only my mother and her younger sister who still lived in Mexico. Since she felt very alone during this time, my mother used the Bible to give her peace of mind and faith that she would be able to see her family again. When my mother was 14 she was finally able to join them.
