This artifact is a Nike white gold pink Pegasus, made out of leather and fabric. This artifact is important to me because my mom brought these for me when l first started running track freshman year. I would wear these shoes for track meets and volleyball games when l needed a bit of luck and reassurance. I feel like a runner when l wear these shoes; they gives me a sense of community. Even though the brand of your shoes don't define if you're a runner or not, l still feel really fast in my shoes. I walk, run and play in these shoes and they never disappoint. Even if it's not the newest spikes or Hoka hyperflys, I still love it since my mom bought it for me from her hard earned money.             My identity matters in NYC today. Youth runners are all over NYC; there are plenty of PSAL, recreational and sport running teams for teens in NYC. Organizations such as NYRR and NYCruns offer many opportunities for runners of all ages to participate in running, regardless of your speed. There are beautiful running paths in nature, maintained by the city government, such as Prospect Park, Chelsea Piers, Williamsburg oval and Central Park. The parks partner with running organizations to host races that give you a beautiful scenic spot wherever you’re running. You can also find yourself in running clubs, making new friends that’ll empower and push you. There are run clubs for boroughs such as PPTC and Running for Success, ethnic groups, ages, different levels. But no matter who you are, you’re always welcome. Your background doesn't affect your ability to run. It makes up NYC as a whole.
