Pilon

In the Dominican Republic we use a Pilón for cooking. A Pilon is made of very strong wood. It is used to crush/mash rice, coffee and garlic. In the Dominican Republic our grandmother used it everyday when she was going to cook. It is a tradition because every Dominican house has one. When we cook we use it because we always crush garlic. This connects to my country because it is common for every Dominican to have one and it was used in the old days and they still use it today.  This object is very important to me and my family because it was a gift from a very special person and they gave it to us 15 years ago and it still looks the same.
