Nepali Dancer Portrait
I am from Nepal. I used to live in a Bhutanese refugee camp. Our lifestyle was really simple. But now I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota. I came here when I was 14 years old. My drawing is showing Nepali historical cultural dance, known as classical dance. I drew this art because my aunt used to dance like this when I was a child. When she was about to dance she used to wear a lot of heavy jewelry and beautiful designer dresses. Everyone used to love watching my aunt dance. She used to be a dance teacher. She used to perform in a lot of programs. Every charity show used to invite her to perform. People really used to enjoy it. They loved her dancing and the moves she made when she danced. When my aunt danced solo, her confidence and grace made her a favorite dancer in the refugee camp as well as in in Kathmandu and Pokhara. I came to the United States in 2016. My aunt stayed in Nepal, but I brought the memory of her and her dancing with me to the United States. This drawing is my memory of my aunt and Nepal.
