Necklace
My object is a photo of my great-great-grandfather, Henry Hammond and my buddha necklace. He came to the US from China. He was a merchant, and he came to America on business and he traveled by railroad to Louisiana where he met my great-great-grandmother and they had several children together. At the time, my great-great-grandmother was living in heavily segregated Louisana and her mother was a former slave. He had a whole family back in China who he left behind to move to America. He also was very old at the time, so he died while he was in the US. Although I have a variety of different heritages, I resonate and connect with my Chinese heritage. I connect with my Chinese heritage, Because my Chinese heritage is an important part of my life, I wear a jade, buddha necklace every day to represent my Chinse heritage. My buddha necklace represents his culture and his life back in China. My family story is unique because I come from many different cultures, which all mix to form one big melting pot which is my life.
