My prayer beads (tasbeeh)
My artifact is my prayer beads, a gift my grandfather brought for me when we were together for our trip to Saudi Arabia.. I kept them with me ever since, and they traveled with me back to NYC. These beads show an important part of my identity because they connect me to my religion of Islam, my culture of being Pakistani, and my family. My tasbeeh motivates me to pray and to devote time to God. My tasbeeh reminds me of my grandfather and the short time we shared, and shows how faith has always been part of my life. My tasbeeh also connects to “we the people” because NYC is a place where many religions and cultures are together. My tasbeeh shows how religion is a big part of my NYCs diversity. My tasbeeh also connects to the bill of rights, freedom of religion because we the people get to express our emotions and thoughts about our religion and my tasbeeh makes me feel happy and safe, so does my religion of being muslim.
