My grandparents immigrated to Brooklyn, New York from Port of Spain, Trinidad.  Initially, they rented space in a house in Brooklyn to live. There were about three other families living in the house, but one of those families was my grandmother's aunt and uncle. Having secured this living space, my grandmother's aunt and uncle sent word to their family in Trinidad, which led to my mother and her siblings coming to Brooklyn. Over time, the other families moved away and my grandparents purchased the house. My family still, to this day, lives in this house. It means a lot to grow up in the same place that my mother grew up in and it makes her story more of a reality to me.
