My immigration object is a Guira. I have had it since I was little. It is a percussion instrument often played in bands in the Dominican Republic. It is played with a metal scraper or fork to make a nice rhythm. You can think of it as a replacement for maracas. I got it during a trip to the Dominican Republic as something to remember my first trip there. This object is important because Merengue music is the main entertainment in the Dominican Republic. My father is from Dominican Republic. I interviewed him for this essay.
