My Great-Grandmother's Pillow
My object is a pillow that used to belong to my great-grandmother. I was pretty close with her and used to go to her house often. I remember she would knit a lot, and always sat in the same spot on her couch, sitting against this pillow. I would help her ball up the yarn so it wouldn’t get tangled, and I would watch cartoons while she knitted. She passed away when I was 9 years old, it was devastating. Even though I was young when she passed, I still have very fond memories of her. Like when I used to attend church, I remember that she would be there every Sunday and I would make her coffee, just the way she liked it (with an unreasonable amount of cream and sugar). She was funny, bright, outspoken, and had this delightful youthfulness to her. After she passed, my mother, among others, went through her apartment to clean out everything. I went with her one day and I remember that the pillow that my great-grandma used to sit on was there. I was asked if I wanted it and I took it, of course. I still own this pillow and have used it every day, it’s the pillow I sleep on. I’m grateful that I was able to spend so much time with my great-grandmother and have so many memories with her, and I will continue to honor her memory.
