My Great Grandmother's Journey

Born and raised in Carlton, Missouri, my great-grandmother, met her husband Harry Jr. in high school. They lived in the Canton area until Harry entered the Navy in 1945. They were stationed in Davisville RI, until being transferred to Port Hueneme, CA. Rosemary put her 2-year-old in the back seat of the car and drove across the country to be with Harry. Upon Harry’s discharge in 1946, they opened the Small Fry restaurant, which lasted a few years. After years of waitress work, she moved on to become a realtor in 1963. Here her strengths became even more apparent when she was a founding member of the Women’s Council of Realtors, was a member of the Business and Professional Women (1985), and was awarded Woman of Achievement (2001). I am so amazed by my grandmother's life, her strength and resistance is always apparent. She loved to travel, garden, and write.
