This is a photo of the watch today.

This pocket watch once belonged to my great-grandfather, Tom Hasbrook. After he graduated from high school in 1947, my great-grandfather joined the army. He was stationed in Germany and specialized in Field Artillery Missile System. At the peak of his military career he achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. This means that he was part of the senior level of both the technical and tactical levels of his field. Although we say that the pocket watch was my great-grandfather's, it actually belonged to his father before him. The ideas of passing down what once belonged to you to the future and giving back to your country is what the watch means to me. The watch reminds me of where we came from and what it means to be an American.
