My Grandpa
This is a picture of my grandfather and grandmother. My grandfather’s name is Hiro, and he is 75 years old. He was born in Pune, India, and immigrated to the United States of America in the year 1973. Life in India was hard, as there weren't many job opportunities there. My Grandfather decided to bring his wife and two kids to the U.S. to create a better life for his family. This is significant to me because my life would have been completely different if he hadn’t made this life-changing choice. If he had not decided to leave his whole life behind in India and start a new life in the United States, I would still be living in India today. I wouldn't have the same opportunities as I do now. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to go to a private school or have the luxury to buy whatever I please. Here are a few words from my grandfather about his immigration experience: When I was eight years old my father passed away, and it was just my mom and I. We weren’t very well off and I started working at the age of 15. I wasn't very wealthy, as there were not great job opportunities in India. At the age of 18, my boss sent me to the United States to sell merchandise here. I later left that job and started my own business in New York City. Once my business was established and running smoothly I moved my wife and kids out of India and into New York. I am blessed to have had this opportunity and I am very happy that I moved to the United States, as this gave my children and grandchildren the life I never had.
