my family Mahjong Set
My mom and my grandmother immigrated from Myanmar in 1970. My family was originally from China however they immigrated to Myanmar. Mahjong is a board game that originated from ancient China. My grandmother loved Mahjong a lot. She was always considered the best in the family. She would spend hours playing at the community center where my mom lived playing. No one could beat her. My grandmother taught my mom how to play Mahjong when my mom was 11. Of course my mom couldn't beat her but she always tried. My grandmother was very particular about Mahjong sets. She only played with the highest quality ones. Anything below her standards she wouldn't bother. She had her own custom Mahjong set made to her specifications. It costed a lot, but to my grandmother Mahjong was worth more than gold. My grandmother passed away in February of 2022. When my mom was sifting through her old stuff she found the custom made Mahjong set. Instead of throwing it out like the other countless junk my grandmother hoarded she decided to bring it home. She eventually showed it to my sister and taught her how to play. My sister also became quickly obsessed with the game. If my grandmother were still alive she would probably play my sister in a fierce match between grandma and granddaughter. This shows how family traditions never really die. They just get passed down to each generation.
