My Beret

I interviewed my grandmother about my beret. My beret is from Paris, France. The beret is a traditional hat in France, it’s a very symbolic hat there because when you think of a French hat you think of a beret. It is often used to keep your head warm in the winter time. It can also be fashionable all over the world in all different weather. I sometimes wear it to school in the winter. Although I’m not positive about what it’s made of, I think it’s made out of wool.
I chose this because it reminds me of my French heritage. My great great grandma and grandpa moved from LeHavre, France to Ellis Island in 1899. They probably would’ve used a beret to keep their heads warm during the journey. In France, My great great grandma, Edwina, was an opera singer. My great great grandpa, Frank, was a baker, but later in life he became allergic to yeast. They moved because Frank wanted to become a bartender. Edwina continued to do opera. Unfortunately, Edwina died at 45. I am proud to have this beret to remind me of my French heritage and my family history.
I enjoyed learning and writing about my connection to France. I wonder how common it was to wear a beret? In conclusion, I am very proud to have this beret to represent my french heritage.
