When my dad was 10 years old, his father filed for divorce and left my father, his mother, and my dad's two sisters on their own, and they were very poor. My dad worked hard as a child, and when he was 18, joined the military. He stayed for two years and then left, using the money he made to move to New York and study Computer Science in Baruch college. He now has enough money to provide for himself, his family, and more. Without the military, he would still be in Wisconsin, and I wouldn't be the person I am today.
