Mezuzah
My object is a Mezuzah. It’s from Lithuania. You put it on your door frame. It has a prayer in it, and it’s supposed to keep your home safe. This isn't a object that you use. It’s sort of a charm to keep you safe. A Mezuzah also is a reminder that you have a belief in a higher power. It also shows that this house is constituted as a Jewish household. The Mezuzah should be placed on every door in the house not only entrance to the household. A mezuzah should be hung on the right hand side of the door at eye level. It should not be sealed shut because every 30 days it should be opened up and inspected for damage and fading. I chose this object because it is very important to my mom because it has been past down to my mom from many generations. It was past from my great grandfather, to my grandfather, to my mom. My Mezuzah is made of metal, but the prayer is made of paper.
