Mexican Pottery (Tavavera)
This is a gift from my grandma that can be called Talavera. This is a type of traditional Mexican pottery that is usually decorated with bright colors and floral designs. There can be many designs and can all symbolize something important. On mine, it has orange and red flowers. The orange flowers symbolize joy and fertility and the red flowers represent Mexico’s national flower (Dahlia) which symbolize pride, beauty, and inner strength. This is something that has a great importance to me because it reminds me of my family's roots. This pottery was discovered thousands of years ago and is still used today. It serves as a Mexican pot for food like pozole, champurrado, and canela. These pottery are used to keep its either hot or cold temperature by using clay as its base, which is a reason why everyone in Mexico uses this! My parents' roots are from Mexico so this became a place where we went for vacation most of the time and we visited our relatives. Everytime we would visit, my great grandma would make all our food from scratch using this pottery and still does to this day. When we visited I would play with my grandma's small set and cut small pieces of bread/pan and serve them on the plates, as for the drinks I would use the leftover beverages left on the stove to pretend to serve my family a meal like my grandma and great grandma. My grandma gifted me this to remember that I can always be close to my culture but also to remind me of her and how much she loves me!
