My parents immigrated from Mexico to the United States coming here to give me and my siblings a life they never had or a much better one. They left their family behind. They suffered language barriers and many steps to keep continuing their lives. They suffered getting jobs and took every job opportunity they could get and hoped that they wouldn't mind the language barrier but even though with all those struggles they worked hard and managed to at least understand English. Even though they had a hard time with the changes they still brought the memories of their home, the flavors of their childhood and celebrations. Despite the long exhausting days they always held on to their roots even if they weren't in their home land. One of the ways my parents enjoyed representing Mexico was by getting our family to come together and making a Mexican dish called tamales. They would make them mostly on family gatherings . Every time we would make them I remember when I would get to try it to see if the dough was ready. While they were cooking you just felt the warmth it brought to our home and the amazing smell they had. Tamales are made out of a corn based dough inside of them we put fillings. Most of the time the fillings include seasoned pork in chili, chicken in chili sauce. Then they are wrapped with corn husks or banana leaves  which adds flavor to the tamales after that the cooking can begin the tamales are steamed in large batches.
