Menorah

This Menorah was one of the few things brought over by my great-grandparents when they immigrated to New York from Lodz, Poland in 1921. It has been in my family since before this, but we don’t know exactly how long it’s been around or when it was made. It is relatively simple when compared to other, more intricate Menorahs, but it’s been a part of my family for so long that it means a lot to us. My grandma, mom, and I all grew up using it for Hanukkah and we will continue using it for the foreseeable future. This summer I had the opportunity to visit Poland, and I got to go to the place my family escaped for fear of religious persecution. It really felt like a full-circle moment, being able to return to the area that previous members of my family never thought any of their relatives would see again. This Menorah holds many memories for my relatives, and will continue to connect my family for as long as it is in use.
