My special item is called Maya. It comes from Guatemala. The history behind my object is the Maya civilzation developed in an area that encompasses southeastern Mexico, all of Guatemala and Belize, and the western portions of Honduras and El Salvador. My item came from the time of the Maya Empire. We’ve had this item in my family for 50 years. My great grandfather gave it to his son who then gave it to my dad for good luck. When my dad came to the United States, he felt like he had good luck because he found my mom. He then gave it to me when I was 9 years old. I feel lucky and responsible that this rock is in my posession and it is my responsibility to continue the tradition. I have a MAYA rock like this one but it is much, much smaller than the one in this picture.
