Nesting Doll

My object is a Russian nesting doll also known as a Matryoshka doll. This doll was made by a Russian man in 1890 named Vasily Zvyozdochkin. The Matryoshka was made to represent a mother carrying her children with her and a mother carrying on her family legacy. Matryoshkas are also made to illustrate the unit of body, soul, mind, heart and spirit. Each of these dolls are carved out of mainly linden wood and hand painted with each has its own unique design. Each Matryoshka doll opens up to find another one and so on. My mom immigrated here when she was nineteen. She brought the Matryoshka to remember her heritage and remind her of Russia. If I could ask my ancestors about this I would ask about what it meant to them. This Matryoshka came from Russia and my mom is Russian. This Matryoshka means something to my mom, so I wonder what it does for my ancestors.
