My mom being married by handfasting

Handfasting is an ancient Celtic marriage ceremony that pre-dates Christianity. My family is Irish and Celtic spirituality is very important to us. Though, handfasting is technically a Scottish tradition. Handfasting is a tradition that joins two souls in marriage by fastening a chord to their wrists. A knot would be tied to symbolize their souls being tied together. This is actually where the expression ‘tying the knot’ originated! My mom’s chord was made of braided ribbon and cloth.
