This manekineko is a very important "Good Luck Cat" in Japan.  You may see them in some stores around the country, so it is getting very popular these days.  There are thousands of golden arm-moving cats in Bowlmor, Times Square (to name specific store).  However, it is traditional and important than you think.  It can symbolize good fortune for students at tests, money for families, love or promotion at basically anywhere, either work or at school.  There is also a manekineko that can symbolize everything, which is the biggest one I have.  The really small green one was for a test and the one with the blue cushion is the one that was passed on from my grandmother that currently lives in Hokkaido, Japan. I am from Toryko.  The small cute stone statue-like object was also passed down from my grandmother and she taught me to rub its head to make it smooth so you will have a smooth life.  I remember her cat was very smooth but mine is still a little rough.
