Magic Cookie Bars
It's funny how something gone in just a few minutes can bring so many people together. Each taste of magic cookie bars bring me back to my childhood when I would beg to help my mom bake it. Now that I am older I have learnt that the magic in this dessert is not the taste it leaves with you, but it’s the memories of my grandmother instilled upon us. This dessert can be found on the internet, but it will always be a dessert that I feel is only for my family and a reminder of my grandmother. Although I did not get to bake the magic cookie bars with her, it feels like I have because whenever I bake them knowing the recipe came from her makes it feel like she is with me. I remember the constant debates growing up over whether it was better with more chocolate chips and with or without nuts. It was always a constant debate between my mom and aunt joking about what their mother liked the best. Each time we make this serves as a reminder that she is still here with us gathered around the table. Magic cookie bars serve as my object that teleports me to the past because of the memories my grandmother has left with this recipe. I rely on magic cookie bars to fill in the gap that my grandmother left once she was no longer here, and I plan to fill this gap for many more years to come. Whenever I see magic cookie bars at the store or my dining hall, it puts a smile on my face because a dessert so special to me serves as a reminder of my grandmother and the love for my family entirely.
