Madonna
My Great Grandmother died when I was six, yet she never left me. I was given two things that had belonged to her, her name and her Madonna. Our Madonna came from the extended family she left behind when she emigrated from Italy. It was to protect her in the scary place that was Brooklyn, NY. She treasured it and up to her death bed swore that the only reason she survived the 1930s was because of this Madonna. So when my mother moved into NYC, she gifted it to her for safety. I grew up with it always watching over me and it has kept me safe my whole life. It is a piece of my great grandmother, and for that I will always cherish it.
