In 1996, my parents decided to make the hard decision of leaving their homeland of Peru and come to the US in search of better opportunities. My father, one of 6 children, had only one brother here in the US before him. My mother, one of 3, had no family members here. They just knew though that they wanted more out of life than what they had in Peru and a better life for their future kids (me and my younger brother). Both of  my parents came from pretty humble households. They had the necessities like food at the table and clothes for school but nothing more. They wanted to make a change for their future. I am very appreciative and fortunate for them and the upbringing that they gave me here while they worked a lot here. Now they are close to retirement and own a home! I have visited Peru 4 times in my life and I love it and the culture. Almost all of the traditional dishes and foods I love and I think personally is the best cuisine in the world. I am blessed and honored to be Peruvian and latino.
