My mom and her family had moved in America in 1976. They had decided to leave Haiti because of the struggles and economy they had to deal with in Port-au- Prince which is the capital of Haiti. My mom and her family had left many things behind, like pictures some family and toys from her childhood and even more important traditions. Expect for one tradition that really mean something to my mom and her family. This one tradition which is every new year my mom and her family would make soup, this soup is very meaningful to my mom because it bring her to the new year with the fresh start. Before my mom had came before the new year my had to deal with struggles and needed to learn how to adapt to the new lifestyle she was living in, so she couldn't wait for the new year so that she could've gotten an new fresh star by drinking her soup. This soup is called soup joumon. Which symbolizes Haitian independece but for my country because long time ago slave master wouldn't let Haitia's have this meal so when the Haitians got their independece they celebrated by drinking this soup. So this is the reason why my mom had brought this traditions with her to have a fresh start of the new year
