Lefse sticks, roller and recipes.

Lefsa has always been the taste of thanksgiving with my grandparents and cousins along with the smells of turkey, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes and the sounds of food cooking and family talking. The story of these sticks starts in Norway as pieces of wood that were carefully handcrafted into the right shape and then finally, flowers that are as orange as lava were hand painted on the handle by my great-great grandparents. When I see the lefse sticks come out I know that the meal is not only going to be filled with good food but it will also be filled with family, laughter and the joy that comes from being with the people you are close to. For me these lefse sticks make me feel a connection to my ancestors, especially my great grandmother who these were passed down to and then later passed down to my family. Also, they make me feel curious about the reason why my ancestors chose to bring these all the way over from Norway when their space was very limited. The first time I tried to make lefse with those sticks my mom demonstrated how to do it but I was never able to complete the lefse without it falling into a million scraps of potato dough, it was like walking on a tightrope.
