When my great-grandparents came to the USA they had 7 kids. They didn’t have like any tragic story or anything. But as their kids got older they started making homemade costumes and they decided to do a whole big, fancy, fun holiday that our family gets to be a part of. My grandma and her sisters made all sorts of crowns, dresses, and objects, but I got this specific crown that my past family had worn too. Las Posadas is a special holiday to our family because it is a Hispanic holiday, but it also ties in with our religious beliefs. We act out the journey of Mary and Joseph and every year we pick a Mary and Joseph to hold baby Jesus. After we get to crack a piñata in the shape of a star and eat treats and foods that are special to our Mexican culture (Conchas :), arroz con pollo, chocolate caliente, etc.). This little crown symbolizes so much for my family and it shows me that even when I feel separated from my family, I am still apart of it.
