Gold Belt from Laos
Gold Belt from Laos

This Gold belt represents my culture and who I am, because it started as a passed-down tradition We wear the Gold Belt with our "Sin" (traditional Laotian skirt) to show our Love and Wealth The belt is mostly worn on special occasions TLC New year's, ( Thai, Lao, Cambodian New year's celebrated around mid April ), Potlucks at the temple and funerals, weddings, and other celebrations. During funerals, we wear a white colored Sin to show our respect to the person who passed away. The male relatives and close friends have an option to be a monk for the ceremony they shave their head and eyebrows (out of Respect) while wearing a yellow/orange gown. The sin skirt is really inspiring and such a pretty piece of our cultural history, it brings us together as a community
