A khams is a talisman that protects the wearer from the evil eye. It’s part of Moroccan culture, and it goes across religions. It’s both among Moroccan Jews and among Moroccan Muslims, and it’s shared by peoples across North Africa and from other countries. The one that I have is one that my mother has given me so I tend to wear it all the time, and it’s something that I feel sort of connects me to her and to my home country.
