A ladle

The object I would like to share is a ladle, which is a wide spoon meant for soups or sauces. This object reflects my heritage and cultural background based on the Italian roots my family possesses.
My family immigrated before World War 1, moving to Long Island, NY from Italy. This was where an increasing number of Sicilians and other Italians were going, due to the large presence of the Catholic Church. My family stayed there up until my parents decided to move, being the first generation in nearly a century to leave.
Though I never lived in Italy, the culture and family traditions followed. For example, my family spends a copious amount of time dedicated to sauce making on pasta nights. This isn't the only food that channels this much time and energy, my dad tends to go all out for many foods but pasta is the one that stands out. This isn't just an hour or two, its a seven or eight hour long endeavor that takes all day. It is cooked in a big pot, with enough to go around our neighborhood aswell. My dad is formerly a chef, working not only in a restaurant but also soup kitchens to give back to the community. I feel like that the unification created when sharing good food gives the label the symbolism it has.
Most people will probably look at the ladle and see a strange looking spoon that is too big for a bowl. But when I look at it I see the giving nature my family has along with my Italian roots.
