A modern day Kurta worn in India

My special object is called a Kurta. This is a special piece of clothing you would wear like a shirt. It is longer than a normal T-shirt, and goes down till about your knees. Kurtas are usually made from silk or other synthetic materials. Although this particular piece of clothing wasn’t passed down from any of my relatives, Kurtas show that you are Indian, just like some foods you eat can show where you are from. Centuries ago, Indians came up with the ideas of wearing Kurtas and started to make and wear them. Nowadays, people of India wear them to religious events to celebrate our culture and the history of India. There are many types of Kurtas which come from the many different parts of India, so depending on what Indians would wear to different events, would show other Indians where they are from. Considering that there are different types of Kurtas, some of them are considered more royal which many more well known people would wear. This can be a sign of respect towards these people because they are wearing higher class clothing. Around four centuries ago was when the first Kurtas were worn. At this time, they were now considered to be the formal clothing of India, because many people would wear it to celebrate their culture. Nowadays, Kurtas are like the Jeans of America.
